ART AND CULTURE Poetic Moment: biodiversity in poetry Celebrating the International Biodiversity Day, students of 7th grade performed a show that involved the fields of Portuguese, Science, English, Arts and Information Technology, resulting in poems and audiovisual productions. The students demonstrated their critical view in relation to the harm that man has been doing to nature, while disrespecting the various ecosystems, jeopardizing the existence of plants, animals, earth, water, atmosphere and the humankind itself. Students reflect upon biodiversity through their own poems Earth Day To celebrate Earth Day, students from 3-7 years old, turned into “tigers”, “elephants”, “monkeys”, etc., interacted in a scenario that simulated a forest, having fun, lifting up the atmosphere, encouraging reflection on the care with life on Earth. A large trunk, containing fake garbage, served to demonstrate how to sort it and distribute it in specific containers, focusing on recycling. A great puzzle reminded the students of the endangered animals, identifying blue macaws, sea turtles and pandas. At the end of the event, everybody received, as a gift, a memory game, containing pictures of animals as a memento of a day of entertainment and, also, of awareness on life’s value. The activity encouraged reflecting upon the environment Book Fair The Book Fair, held in booth School units, gathered students, friends and family members for several cultural activities. Classrooms were turned into a stage for many literature-related performances, such as storytelling, poetry reading, film sessions and art workshops. A special area, dedicated to book authors, allowed close contact with creators of stories, who autographed their books and revealed part of the mystery involved in the creative process. At a great lounge in tribute to José Mindlin, bibliophile and businessman who was a student at the school, his video testimonial was presented, mentioning his life, interests, professional history and the period in Rio There were publications of numerous genres at the Fair Branco in the 1920s. 64 Annual Report 2010
