Annual Report 2011 School Olympics at the Higienópolis Unit Students from all grades and classes of the Higienópolis Unit, grouped by age, took part in the games that simulated the Olympics. The Dance Group and Rio Branco School’s Choir performed in the opening ceremony, which also had a gymnastics exhibition by former student Bárbara Weg, giving it an artistic touch.After the Olympic pyre was lit by student Vivian Ogawa, the games began, with younger students participating in recreational and relay games, played in teams. The older students played handball, basketball, indoor football, volleyball and volleyball in doubles, showing talent and technique in their performances. The Olympics integrated the students in Higienópolis unit Spring Games - Granja Vianna The traditional Spring Games were held in the beginning of September: Pre-schoolers and first graders got together to celebrate, through artistic performances, the coming of the new season, as well as taking part in recreation games. There were both individual activities, such as races and ball throwing, and team sports, such as dodge-ball and scavenger hunts, promoting integration with colleagues from other classes and allowing the students to become familiar with rules and situations typical to sports. Spring Games at Granja Vianna unit Swimming Festival - Granja Vianna The Swimming Festival, held at Centro Aquático Lourenço Fló Jr. (Aquatic Center) at the Granja Vianna Unit, showed the students’ performance in several swimming modalities, divided into age groups. The festival ended with a competitive relay race, open to all of those that wanted to take part in it, and handed a trophy to all participants and medals to those that swam the relay. CULTURAL AND SCIENTIFIC FIELD TRIPS - STUDY OF THE ENVIRONMENT Cultural and scientific field trips aiming at studying the environment, happened in and outside the State of São Paulo, contributing to improve the students ability to observe nature and reflect on ways to preserve it, with the purpose of complementing the theoretical learning by means of ascertaining, in the field, the concepts worked in the classroom. Botanical Gardens of São Paulo In their visit to the Botanical Gardens of São Paulo, Seven Graders saw a variety of flora species from several regions of Brazil and deepened their knowledge of pollination, acquired from studies and research held in the classroom.
