Touristic State Park of Alto da Ribeira 2011 was the International Year of Forests, so students from the 8th grade visited the Parque Estadual Turístico do Alto da Ribeira – Petar (Touristic State Park), with the purpose of observing the regions relief, the biodiversity present in what remains of the Mata Atlântica (Atlantic Forest) - and reflect on the existing threats to the forests, in addition to exploring caves, waterfalls, trails and archaeological and paleontological sites. Students had the oppor- tunity to get to know the Petar Park. Instituto Butantã Third graders concluded research on vertebrate and invertebrate animals with a visit to Instituto Butantã, where they learned about vaccine and serum production processes. Pet Zoo, Toca da Raposa, Cia. dos Bichos Pre-schoolers went on a field trip to the Pet Zoo, where they recognized several animals and identified their babies in the nursery. At Toca da Raposa (Fox’s Den), first graders saw a presentation on animals in extinction. At Cia. dos Bichos, pré-school students went for a walk through the forest and had direct contact with several animals, feeding them and observing their way of life. Navega Tietê - Projeto Água para a Vida (Navigating through the Tietê River - Water for Life Project) The project Navega Tietê - Água para a Vida allowed six of its areas. The higher purpose of this work, connected to the graders to experiment the issue of survival and vitality of the Science and Geography areas, was to see the reality of the Tietê River. The students were asked to attentively observe the river and encourage personal and collective actions that will river and see, from a visual and olfactory point of view, the draw the attention to the fact that everyone is responsible for effects of its degradation, as well as of the recovery of some preserving the most important river in the State of São Paulo. Trip to Pantanal grade, went on a field trip to Pantanal to explore the cerrado biome, acknowledged by Unesco as a World Natural Heritage Site. Lectures given by experts and the students’ researches helped to prepare for the trip and to interpret the different fauna and flora phenomena of the Pantanal. In Miranda, the teachers that accompanied the group proposed several activities considering the information they obtained there and the vast work field, involving features of the region’s relief, climate and vegetation. The students visited the Gruta Azul (Blue Cave) in Bonito and observed the stalactites and stalagmites there, and went rafting. Daytime and nighttime At the Pantanal, students explored the fauna and flora observation of wild animals resulted in Biology Eighty-six students from the Granja Vianna Unit and works on the identification of birds in 60 students from the Higienópolis Unit, from the seventh their natural habitats. 59
