Moment of Solidarity Over 100 high school students held a minute of silence in honor of the children that were victims of the tragedy at Tasso da Silveira School in Rio de Janeiro, in which a former student killed students from that school. The students wore black and expressed their solidarity by songs and posters speaking of peace and compassion. Students promoted a moment of solidarity and reflection Moment of Reflection Marking the 10th anniversary of 09/11, 11th and 12th grade students attended lectures on the theme, in an activity that aimed to deepen the issues connected to the international political context and to the reflection on the consequences of the greatest terrorist attack in history. At both units of the school, teachers and guests focused on the fact in light of the United States military power and the evolution of the political and economic power in several regions of the world. O jornalista José Eduardo Barella and Guilherme Casarões TALENTS Acknowledging student talent, in or outside of the classroom and in other institutions, represents the recognition of individual value, of skills shown in the field of knowledge, of creativity and of their attitudes. Rio Branco Award The 2011 edition of the Rio Branco Award celebrated, in a festive manner, challenges that were overcome and the students good results in regular school activities and in sports, arts and social-environmental projects. Rio Branco Award honored the students good results IV Mathematical Challenge Students for the 4th grade to 12th grade students that took part in the IV Desafio de Matemática Rio Branco (IV Rio Branco Mathematical Challenge) and obtained the highest scores in their class were awarded for their dedication to the tests, which lasted three months, and their excellent results. Around 700 students from each unit took part in the competition, which is an opportunity, outside of the formal classroom environment to develop logic, text interpretation, deduction and induction; the tests’ questions are based on assessment tests held in Brazil and in the World, such as the Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio – Enem (National High School Exam), the Prova Brasil (Brazil Test), Fuvest exams and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
