Annual Report 2011 Viva Fest Viva Fest is a show created by students from the Higienópolis Unit, displaying the participants talents in several arts: dance, theater, singing and instrumental music, as well as their general organization skills and dedication to a social project. The Students’ performances entertained the audience School and Sports Go Hand In Hand Nineth grader Roberto Agulha de Freitas is a perfect example of how success in sports and in school can be complementary, indicating different talents and interests. Roberto is an enthusiastic water polo player at Clube Paineiras do Morumby, having obtained the Distinction award and the title of top scorer of the 2010 São Paulo Championship. He made a commitment to his parents at a time when his grades in school were down, to recover those grades, without abdicating from the intensive daily practices. Having lived up to his word, Roberto proved that not only is it possible to dedicate one’s self to both tasks, but also to take advantage of what one adds to the other. Student Roberto Agulha is a talent in his studies and also in sports Young Parliament The 2011 edition of the Young Parliament had the participation of 9th grader Marcos Pimentel Mendes de Almeida. This project, from the City Council of São Paulo, allows students from public and private schools to act as young councilmen and women on a special day, dedicated to exposing ideas proposed by the teenagers themselves to improve life in the city. The student was selected in 17th place, from among hundreds of candidates, and had the opportunity to present for vote in that session his bill referent to the declaration of the building that harbored Cine Belas Artes (a movie theather) as culturally meaningful, as a way to preserve the tradition of street cinemas. Having been passed by his colleagues, the bill is now part of that house’s library and is available for public consultation. City Housing Secretary Receives Students from the 9th Grade 9th graders Adriana Alves de Rosa, Guilherme Rugai Pereira Focusing on the issue of selective waste collection and Leite, Julia David Pereira da Silva and Raquel Thomazoni, along reducing, reusing and recycling of materials, the work presents, with supervisor Wilma Lima, went to the Secretaria Municipal through videos, ideas and solutions to raise awareness in the de Habitação (City Housing Secretariat) to present to the general population on this theme. Secretary, Ricardo Pereira Leite, their work “Quality of Life”. Given the students’ enthusiasm for the cause of quality of life in the cities, Ricardo Pereira Leite placed the Secretariat at their disposal to carry out actions in underprivileged communities and give lectures at the school on the urbanization, quality of life and a sustainability project of the municipality of São Paulo. 66
