Expocom Award During the closing of the XXXIV Congresso Nacional da Intercom -Sociedade Brasileira de Estudos Interdisciplinares da Comunicação (Brazilian Congress of Communication Sciences), held in Recife (PE), students from the Social Communications course received the Expocom Nacional 2011 Award. The Award is granted to the best experimental works produced by Social Communication students throughout the Country. Students from the Radio and TV course - Aline Simi, Maíra Machado, Jonas Markley and Danilo Veloso – were awarded in the category “Cinema and Audiovisual/ TV laboratory Program” with the work “Putz!”, a microseries that portrays the tragicomedy of everyday situations. Aline Sanae de Souza, a student of Journalism, won in the category “Journalism/ Utilitarian Journalism Production” with the work “São Luiz do Paraitinga: reconstrução de uma cidade e de um patrimônio” (São Luiz do Paraitinga: rebuilding a city and its heritage), a documentary about the history of the city before, during and after de 2010 flood. The students were supported, respectively, by teachers Eliana da Silva and Patrícia Rangel. Winners of Intercom/Expocom Radio Cultura Student Show Five works from journalism students were selected, from over 400 works submitted by Radio and TV students from all over the Country, to be broadcasted in the Student Show from Radio Cultura Brasil de São Paulo: ‘Repórter Esso: who said he is dead?’, ‘Aracy: the samba itself’, ‘Clearing life in an ecovilla’, ‘Mocoronga Network: an echo..logical in the Amazon’ and ‘Body Percussion: in the rhythm of communication.’ Launching of the Environmental Licensing Internet Portal Journalism students, guided by teacher Carina Macedo, carried out the journalistic coverage of the event that launched the Internet Portal for Environmental Licensing in the State of São Paulo. The system speeds up the processes involving the suppression of vegetation and intervention in protected areas for water sources in the São Paulo Metropolitan region. The work of the students links to the “Produção mais Limpa (P+L)” (Cleaner Production) Project, a partnership between the Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco and the Federação das Indústrias do Estado de São Paulo – Fiesp (São Paulo State Industry Federation), which promotes de dissemination of industrial production concepts, that increase benefits to the environment, to companies and future professionals. The students covered the event Rhino Mania A Senior Advertising student, André Ortiz, presented his works at Rhino Mania. The Exhibit gathered 75 multicolored rhino sculptures, sculpted in fiberglass, at the Museu Brasileiro da Escultura – MuBE (Brazilian Sculpture Museum), and later on distributed the sculptures throughout different locations in the City of São Paulo. André Ortiz and Daniel Chuery had their works exhibited at Sé Metro Station and Pirituba terminal for a month. By the end of the exhibit, all works were auctioned and the proceeds were given away, for the benefit of institutions dedicated to environmental education and preservation of wild life. 33
