Annual Report 2014 39 SCHOOL AND FAMILY FAMILY DAY The Family Day brought together students from Pre School to 5th grade of Elementary School and their families to experience special moments. At the Granja Vianna Unit, the meeting provided experiences and group games with students and their families. The first experience was in the gym with the Academia de Capoeira Ursa Maior (a capoeira school), located in the Granja Viana region. During the activity, the families were able to learn more about capoeira, which combines elements of martial arts, culture, sports and music. Recreational activities and many games took place on the courts and field: marble ball, stiltwalking, hula hoop, chess, among others. At the end, they had picnic in the woods of the school. “You can help with your own hands” was the theme of the Family Day at Higienopolis Unit. The participants created drawings, prints and collages on comforters that were donated to a charity Relatives gathered during the Family Day institution. In order to value the deaf culture, those present learned how to sign a song in Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). This activity MEETINGS WITH SCHOOL BOARD Throughout 2014, parents, principals and directors got together to discuss several challenging issues in the education process of children and young adults. The Meetings with the School Board have been held for two years now, once a month. It is a moment when family and school come together to reflect, discuss and expand their experiences about the challenging and wonderful experience of educating, besides sharing experiences and exchange ideas with the general principal, Esther Carvalho. Bullying, the use of Social Networks, Consumption and Vanity Cultures and Non-cognitive skills are examples of relevant topics discussed at the meetings.
