Annual Report 2014 57 RELATIONSHIP WITH THE MEDIA RIO BRANCO PROGRAM FOR JOURNALISTS The extension course “World Cup: a political, economic and social overview” was designed to mainstream media professionals. Led by the market and academic experts, the 5th edition of the program discussed the FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Sports marketing, Economics and Politics were some of the topics covered. The purpose of the program was to cooperate with the media professionals in order to prepare them for the World Cup by providing elements of academic style to write articles and stimulate critical thinking on the different aspects of this mega-event. The first module of the course was taught by doctor Ary Rocco. He is a journalist, an expert in Communication and Sports marketing and teacher in the Sports Journalism postgraduate course of Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco. The analysis addressed the sports journalism history in the world and in Brazil, comparing the early sport coverages with reports published by the press today, and the increasing number of articles on entertainment and behavior. The World Cup and Tourism were the themes discussed in the second meeting by Roberto Mauro Santos, teacher in the Business Administration Course of Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco. He holds a bachelor degree in Business Administration from PUC-SP and a master degree in Service Management from Sorbonne - Paris. The speaker stressed the importance of developing infrastructure in order to promote domestic and international tourism, as well as meet the demands of tourists who came for the World Cup. The Rio Branco Law School coordinator, Paulo Sergio Feuz, d i s c u s s e d in the third meeting, the implications of the General Law of World Cup in Brazil, e x p l a i n i n g w h i ch a re the effects of hosting a World Cup. The expert also addressed h o w t h e major local, national and international entities related to sports are organized. In the fourth module “World Cup and International Relations: FIFA as an international player and soccer as a Brazilian foreign policy tool, José Maria Junior, teacher in the International Relations course, addressed the political, social and economic issues involved in several editions of the World Cup. World Cup and Policy: the possible impacts on the presidential elections, was theme discussed by Denilde Holzhacker, teacher in the International Relations course. She addressed how Brazilian foreign policy implies in the international perception on the capacity of Brazil to manage the mega-event. She also pointed out possible political and social scenarios that could rise during the World Cup period and influence the presidential elections.
