Annual Report 2014 65 PEDAGOGY WEEK Lectures, discussions and unusual activities such as theater play performances were part of the agenda. The Pedagogy course of Faculdades Integradas Rio Branco held the 15th Pedagogy Week. The FRB academic director, Alexandre Uehara, hold the opening ceremony along with the course coordinator, Fabiana Malandrino. They highlighted the importance of reading and important role played by educators and future educators on growth and development of children and young adults. The opening lecture was delivered by Humberto de Aragão, a guest-teacher, who spoke on “The art of reading: a delighting experience to be enjoyed”. He quoted some authors such as Paulo Freire, Rubem Alves, José Saramago, among others, making an inspiring speech on how to engage new regular readers. The author Paulo Rafael addressed the theme “The world here has borders with the black eyes in the mirror: literature and music in search of identity”. He talked about African-Brazilian culture and ethnic-racial relations. At the end, Renato Gama and Ronaldo Gama “sung stories” of a book written by Paulo Rafael along with musical accompaniment on different instruments. Students had the opportunity to attend a theater play performed by the students from EMEF Castro Alves, Brasilândia. The play A Midsummer Night was the result of a theater workshop developed by Liliane Zimermann, student from the Rio Branco Pedagogy course. The theme “The clown look in human relations” was approached by Silvio Messiah. Marina Herrero presented his documentary about the games in the Upper Xingu culture, bringing toys built by Indians and explaining the importance and values that can guide the play. At the end of the event, Vanessa de Castro delivered a lecture on “The storytelling art: from the classroom to the world”, in which she has an historical and evolutionary overview of children and young people literature and explained how storytelling can contribute for cognitive, affective and social development of children.
